Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says when 300,000 people die across the world from COVID-19 “surely that demands an open, transparent inquiry” into the cause, but insisted it would not serve as “having a go at anyone or any nation”. Foreign Minister Marise Payne told Sky News on Wednesday the government does believe there should be an independent investigation into the origins of COVID-19 and it is “not a remarkable proposition and we think that is a reasonable statement for Australia to have made”. Mr Albanese praised the foreign minister for being “out there making comments” and said he “supported” her comments. “This should not be a partisan issue, nor should it be an issue which is controversial”. The opposition leader told Sky News host Chris Kenny any investigation into the coronavirus should not be “seen as an attack on any country”. Image: Getty
