Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has been tested for COVID-19 after experiencing a nasty coughing fit during his economic update address to parliament on Tuesday.

Mr Frydenberg, who had denied being ill prior to the address, has been tested for the novel pathogen and is now awaiting the results in isolation.

“The DCMO advised me that out of an abundance of caution it was prudent I be tested for COVID-19,” Mr Frydenberg said in a statement.

“Following the receipt of his advice I immediately left Parliament House to be tested and will await the result in isolation.

“I expect the result of my test to be provided tomorrow.”
