New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters says both Australia and New Zealand have "placed far too much hope on immigration as an artificial prop" to keep the stimulus of the economy going. His comments were in reference to Labor Frontbencher Kristina Keneally's comments on immigration calling for greater emphasis on Australian jobs. "I welcome the change in the Labor Party's view in Australia because it's long overdue," he said. Mr Peters told Sky News host Chris Kenny increased immigration is "no long-term recipe for an economy". "It's great to see people learn lessons from a disaster like COVID-19". "In the end the number one responsibility of the Australian government is to its own people". Image: AP
