Semi Trucks Blare Horns in Washington in Protest Against Freight Brokers, Low Pay

over 5 years in news

Semi trucks lined Constitution Avenue in Washington on May 1 and blared their horns to protest “broker gouging,” as one banner said, that results in less pay for drivers, according to reports. The transportation and logistics publication Freight Broker Live reported truck drivers from across the United States convened in Washington on Friday for a three-day protest “to peacefully demonstrate against low rates, increasing operational costs, trucking regulations and autonomous trucks.” A Change.org petition aimed at Elaine Chao, the United States Secretary of Transportation, demands legislation to cap the commission of “mega brokers” that “drive rates to the ground.” “There are 3.5 million truckers with over 10 million immediate family members in the USA who don’t stop working during any national disaster. A handful of freight brokers control freight delivery,” the petition says. Credit: @jessbrownDC via Storyful
