‘Tough Guy’ COVID 19 Survivor Returns Home to Family

about 4 years in news

A COVID-19 survivor who recovered from a dangerous complication after contracting the virus was relieved to return home to his family on April 27, a video shows. Warnell Vega, 33, from Harlem, works for the New York City school system’s program to feed students. He works handing out lunches to kids who depend on these meals when school is in session, the hospital said. He was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, a dangerous blood-clotting issue associated with COVID-19, when he arrived at Mount Sinai Morningside hospital on April 19. Doctors at the hospital said he was lucky to have survived. In this video, Vega can be seen expressing gratitude for health care workers. “Thank you everybody for getting my health back up so I can return home,” he said. “And to everybody else: stay home.” Dr John Puskas, the physician interviewing Vega in the video, called him a “tough guy.” Credit: Mount Sinai Morningside via Storyful
