British war veteran Tom Moore has celebrated his 100th birthday by announcing he has now raised AU$60M for the UK's National Health Service.

Mr Moore originally set out to raise $2,000 by walking 100 laps of his garden but donations flooded in after his campaign went viral.

"That's a lot of money. It's all for a good cause. It's all set out for the National Health Service. Maybe some of the money could be spread a little wider to the old people's homes," Captain Moore said.

The World War II veteran was honoured with a promotion to the rank of Colonel and a fly-past by two vintage Royal Air Force planes.
