Cricket Australia will be able to sustain itself even if revenue is down by 50 per cent due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the CEO Kevin Roberts.

Cricket Australia is negotiating with its state partners to reduce costs in the face of a revenue shortfall due to the pandemic.

The governing body has already stood down 80 per cent of its staff, while most players will likely have to take a pay cut to ensure the game can be sustainable despite global travel bans.

India is due to tour Australia later this year which is expected to net up to $250 million into Cricket Australia’s coffers, however the series is in doubt due to the pandemic.

Mr Roberts said the Big Bash will become “even more important” if major drawcards like India and England cannot tour Australia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
