The only barrier to serious reform in Australia is ‘weak politicians’

Sky News host Peta Credlin says as RBA Governor Philip Lowe observed it will take many years for sectors to recover but, once the shutdown is over, Australia must "call an end to the green madness" which claims economic growth doesn't matter. The Governor said Australia's economy will contract by 10 per cent in the first half of 2020, but there is an opportunity to push ahead with reform on the back of cooperation between the states and the federal government, and both sides of the political aisle. Ms Credlin said Australia needs to have a "relentless focus" on approving all possible avenues which lead to "well-paid, lasting jobs". "It would be a crime to keep putting hurdles and handicaps in the way of job creation". "That's a real challenge to the states, given that so much of the green tape and red tape emanates from their bureaucracies". Ms Credlin suggested the National Cabinet with its new-found cooperation could agree to raise and broaden the base of the GST while "removing and reducing other taxes". "The whole reason" Australia has not had seismic and significant reform over the past few decades is "too many weak politicians have wanted to be liked and therefore wanted complete agreement, before they would move on reform".
