A Vancouver fire chief surprised his four children after more than a month away from them, a video shared on April 16 shows. Fire Chief Darrell Reid spent 43 days working alongside Vancouver’s COVID-19 Task Force Team, which required that he stay away from his family to prevent any potential spread of the virus. This footage was filmed after Reid drove 13 hours to get home and video called his children, asking if he could come inside. Reid’s wife Chelsey captured video of the moment the children realized their father was outside in the driveway, running to him and embracing him. “I will never forget the look on their faces,” Chief Reid wrote in a tweet. “Thanks to all who let me get home!” As of April 20, British Columbia had reported 1,699 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 86 deaths.
