US states taking ‘baby steps’ towards reopening

US correspondent Cameron Stewart says President Donald Trump is putting pressure on state governors “as much as he possibly can” to reopen their states, encouraging small groups of conservatives in their protests against state lockdown restrictions.

Mr Stewart told Sky News governors were taking “baby steps” towards lifting restrictions, with parks being opened in Texas and some beaches in Florida.

He said some states – including New York and Michigan – had some of the worst hit cities in the US but were now dealing with protests from regional residents who wanted their states to reopen.

“These governors have a real dilemma in trying to balance their own state when there’s two extremes in the one state,” he said.
