Australia is progressing to ‘become the federation of socialist states’

Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi says the mantra ‘governments should never let a good crisis go to waste’ has been “embraced by both sides of the political divide” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Bernardi said those on the political left are using the pandemic to “attack free market capitalism,” while the right is adopting “big government policies of the left to save us all from each other”.

“Scarcely a politician hasn’t used this opportunity to push their own policy barrows,” he said.

Mr Bernardi spoke of the Australian context and said the Labor Party “thinks doubling the dole needs to stay,” the Greens are mostly remaining silent as their “wish list is being implement,” while Pauline Hanson “wants government price controls and no foreign investment”.

The coronavirus crisis has also seen a raft of new state and federal government policies to combat the economic effects of the virus including extending the government welfare regime and offering rent-free periods for certain tenants.

“We see government doing more and more as Australia progresses to become the Federation of Socialist States”.

Out of the coronavirus, Mr Bernardi said only “one path is sustainable, and that is the path of less government”.
