A staggering 21 per cent of people were laid off from their job in the last week, according to new figures.
The same survey, conducted on March 14 by Newgate, found that figure was at just five per cent.
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell revealed the data from the research and lobby group and said it was further proof of the critical need for the government’s Job Keeper package.
However, the survey revealed an overwhelming majority of respondents felt the government’s actions to curb the spread of COVID-19 were “fair and reasonable”.
Eighty-one per cent of those survey registered the result, up 20 per cent from the survey a month prior.
