Whether it be SARS or COVID 19 ‘All roads lead to wet markets’

about 4 years in news

Liberal MP Jason Wood says Prime Minister Scott Morrison "has led the charge when it comes to Australia's concerns over wildlife wet markets".

COVID-19 is thought to have originated from a wet market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, while the deadly SARS outbreak was traced back to a wildlife trade market in Guangdong province in 2003.

"As we've seen from SARS and also from COVID-19, that all roads lead back to the wet markets," Mr Wood told Sky News.

He said as a nation, "we should be very proud of our prime minister leading the globe" on criticising the continual operation of wet markets in China.

Mr Wood said the prime minister has delivered "very powerful messages going back to the Chinese government" on the issue.
