Protesters brought traffic to a standstill around Michigan’s State Capitol building in Lansing on April 15, as part of a demonstration calling for an end to the stay-at-order issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to contain the spread of the coronavirus. The in-vehicle rally, organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition, was dubbed Operation Gridlock. Dozens of vehicles come to a halt in downtown Lansing and blared their horns in opposition of Whitmer’s order. Kevin Whiteford, a Republican activist, attended the rally and captured this video, showing a long line of vehicles outside the State Capitol. Whiteford called it “total chaos.” On April 9, Gov. Whitmer extended the state’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order through April 30. The ruling “limits gatherings and travel and requires all workers who are not necessary to sustain or protect life to stay home.” As of April 15, there was 27,001 confirmed cases of CoVid-19 in Michigan, and 1,768 deaths, according to the state’s Department of Health and Human Services.
