Cardinal Pell’s enemies ‘will hound him to the grave’ Kenny

Sky News host Chris Kenny says the “witch hunt” and media trial of Cardinal Pell continues to portray “this desperate push to find a scapegoat for the sins of the Catholic church”.

On Tuesday it was reported Victoria Police has launched a new investigation into child abuse allegations against Cardinal Pell dating back to the 1970s.

It comes as Cardinal Pell had his conviction overturned last week by Australia’s highest court in a unanimous decision, after having spent 405 days in jail following an initial ruling which had found him guilty on child sex offences.

“Here we go again,” Mr Kenny said.

“Another curiously timed claim, another curiously timed investigation, another intriguing leak to the media”.

Mr Kenny said the “enemies” of Cardinal Pell in the media and in political circles “have proudly proclaimed they refuse to recognise his innocence”.

He said those enemies of the Cardinal “have not given up” and will continue to pursue this “get-Pell affair”.

Mr Kenny said there are people who will pursue the Cardinal for “however long it takes” and are “determined to hound George Pell to his grave”.
