Australia must avoid the ‘coronavirus struggles’ seen in the US and UK

Sky News host Chris Kenny says Australia has managed to get the deadly coronavirus under control, but the nation must be “extremely careful” to avoid enduring what is being seen in the United States and the UK. He said, in Australia, “by good luck and good management are in a much better situation” than what is occurring in other “similar first world countries”. He said “no serious person” could urge for a “radical opening up” of some of the strict government measures implemented to stem the spread of the pathogen in Australia. However, he said there is “somewhere that this debate needs to start”. Mr Kenny spoke of the need to assess some of the “overdone social distancing rules” currently being implemented across the nation. “Before we even start to talk about how we might be able to reopen some restaurants under special conditions, or even pubs eventually, or get professional sport up and running, we will have to ease back on some of this clampdown,” he said. “We have to push this as quickly as we can without letting the infection rate slip”.
