The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on Vancouver Island has gone up by two in the past 24 hours, according to provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
There have been 45 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in B.C. in the past day, Henry said, bringing the total to 1,336. Of those, 838 people are considered to be fully recovered.
Currently, there are 135 people are in hospital, including 11 within the Island Health region. Sixty-one people are in intensive care or critical care units.
There have been 81 cases on Vancouver Island, 615 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 487 in Fraser Health, 130 in Interior Health and 23 in Northern Health.
Five additional deaths were reported Wednesday, bringing the total in B.C. to 48.
Not everyone who might have COVID-19 is tested. Guidelines from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control limit testing to people who are hospitalized or likely to be hospitalized, health-care workers, residents in long-term care, and people who are part of an investigation for a cluster outbreak. That means there could be more cases of COVID-19 in the province than what has been confirmed by tests.
