Principal Medical Advisor at the Department of Health, Professor Michael Kidd says “the curve is flattening here in Australia” but warned “this is not a time for complacency”. Mr Kidd told Sky News “with the reduction in the number of new infections recurring around the country, the measures which the country’s adopted and which Australians have picked up and are performing so magnificently are having their impact”. "The modeling shows that rather than having a terrible, uncontrolled epidemic that what we have is a controlled epidemic with limited number of new infections," he said. “This is what flattening the curve is all about, keeping the number of new infections down, keeping the number of people with very serious illness at the lowest level that we possibly can and of course preventing the number of deaths that we can as well. “We have had the advantage of being able to see what was happening, how the epidemic was rolling out in other countries. “We learnt lessons from other countries and those have been applied through the measures which are now in place right across Australia."
