Sky News contributor Campbell Newman says he cannot go fishing this weekend, but the Queensland government "made us vote last weekend because that suited their craven political purposes".

The Queensland government have been under intense scrutiny amid the coronavirus crisis, by letting two by-elections and council elections continue last weekend, and in recent days before eventually back flipping, accepting a three per cent public service pay rise.

Mr Newman told Sky News host Paul Murray the Queensland state opposition "need to step up to the plate and hold these people to account".
