When coronavirus ‘is said and done’ Australia must be more ‘self reliant’ in the future

Sky News host Peta Credlin says she agrees with Foreign Minister Peter Dutton's stance that Australia must put our country's needs first during the coronavirus crisis and only help others after “we’ve looked after ourselves”.

“With so much happening under the hammer blows of the corona crisis, it's not surprising that there's a bit of mixed messaging going on,” Ms Credlin said.

“I suppose, at one level, the government has to mouth the economic lines about free trade - because in a perfect world free trade would maximise our wealth”.

However, “When it comes to putting Australia first, I'm with Dutton,” she said.

“It's only once we've looked after ourselves when it comes to medical equipment and health supplies - and, indeed, all the basics that a country might need in a crisis that we can start supplying it to others”.

Ms Credlin said, after the effects of this virus are felt, as a nation “above all else … we must end up a more self-reliant country”.

She also said our politicians, on both sides of the political spectrum, must conduct plenty of “soul-searching” in the future.

“Hopefully it will mean an end to globalism trumping Australia's national interest, and a serious realisation as to China's security, and economic, end game”.
