Sky news host Peta Credlin believes "the government has met the mark" with Monday's wage subsidy announcement, saying "people want to see a way to keep workers attached to their employers," however she does also have a "worry" about it too.

Australian workers will be able to access a guaranteed paycheck of $1,500 a fortnight as the federal government steps in to foot what will become a $130 billion bill.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Monday revealed his government will pay employers to keep on their staff to avoid a mass exodus in the workforce which could see more than a million Australians out of work.

Ms Credlin said she does have a "worry" the subsidy "is a flat fee assessment that doesn't take into any consideration what people actually earn and it requires business to have a cash flow to be able to pay them now and get reimbursed in May".

"It's a lot of money but clearly they've decided in the last fortnight they must do something," she said.

The Australian's Dennis Shanahan commented on the issue saying "I think Australia is an egalitarian society where we have to have solutions which suit the Australian society and the reality of Australian politics".
