As coronavirus cases continued to surge in New York City, health care workers in the area have begun to feel pressure. Patients have been lining up outside hospitals for evaluation and medical supplies have been dwindling, according to reports. The New York Department of Health recorded 30,811 cases of the novel coronavirus in the state as of Wednesday, March 25, with 17,856 of the cases concentrated in New York City. At Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, 13 people have died in the last 24 hours, according to local media reports. Staff at the hospital expressed concern about lack of supplies and readiness as they continue to treat a growing number of COVID-19 patients. “I don’t have the support that I need, and even just the materials that I need physically to take care of my patients. And it’s America, and we’re supposed to be a first-world country,” Dr Colleen Smith, an Elmhurst emergency room doctor, told the New York Times.
