Trump is right ‘the cure for coronavirus is worst than the disease’ Bernardi

While the elderly and those with chronic diseases should be isolated and protected, it is important the coronavirus response does not cause the world to sink to a global depression, according to former Australian Conservatives Senator Cory Bernardi.
US President Donald Trump surprised many observers when he said he did not want America's non-essential businesses to be closed for an extended period of time, stating the country "was not built to be shut down".
That comment is at odds with the advice of most medical bodies, who argue non-essential businesses should be shut and for the public to adhere to social distancing practices.
There are at least 42,600 cases in America, including 540 deaths.
Mr Bernardi said while the disease is a "tragedy for the most vulnerable...the cure is sending Australia into a recession, possible a depression".
Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy said it would be "irresponsible" for Australia to take Senator Bernardi's approach.
"If you look at the latest medical studies, they are suggesting it is not just over 70s being hit hard by coronavirus," he said.
