‘Very, Very Quiet’ Few People Seen at London Victoria Station Amid New Coronavirus Measures

The United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced what he called “draconian” new measures to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in a televised address on March 16. In the statement, he urged the British people to “stop nonessential contact with others and to stop all unnecessary travel.” According to reporting from the BBC, Johnson told ministers on March 17: “We are engaged in a war against the disease which we have to win.” Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab made a subsequent statement on March 17 advising against “all nonessential international travel.” In this video posted March 16 with the comment, “Very, very quiet,” London Victoria train station can be seen with only a few people in it after the new measures were announced.
