Technology could help those going through ‘extreme isolation’

Tech expert Trevor Long says coronavirus could be “an opportunity to introduce” video technologies to the elderly and the frail in Australia who will go through “extreme isolation more than just virus isolation”.

Mr Long said these sects of society “get the most from those little visits from the grand kids” or little coffee catch-ups, and self-isolation will hit them the hardest.

“We have this technology that’s been around for years that we haven’t really embraced with video calling,” Mr Long said.

He told Sky News host Paul Murray this technology allows “your kids to pick up an iPad at your house, press a button” and their grandparents will be on the “other end and they can have a conversation”.
