ABC Chair Ita Buttrose criticises the government for sending mixed messages which confuse the public but her role is to focus on ABC’s performance during the crisis and “it hasn’t been performing all that well” says The Australian’s Gerard Henderson.

Ms Buttrose said some Australians could be “confused by the barrage of messaging” because there are “too many people and too many voices”.

“The ABC itself is confused,” said Mr Henderson.

He told Sky News host Andrew Bolt on one hand ABC Journalist and medical professional Dr Norman Swan was advocating for schools to be shut down, and then the next morning ABC host Michael Rowland had guest arguing for schools to stay open.

“Norman Swan is saying one thing, ABC Journalists are saying another thing, and the ABC Chairman is in the middle accusing the government of not giving a coherent message,” Mr Henderson said.

“The ABC isn’t giving a coherent message”.
