Former Labor Minister Stephen Conroy doesn't believe Hillary Clinton is going to be the potential vice president if Democratic candidate Joe Biden is to be the party's nominee, instead "I think it will be Michelle Obama," he said.

Mr Biden confirmed if he won his party's nomination, then he would pick a woman to be his running mate.

He made the announcement during a debate with competitor Bernie Sanders on Monday.

"I think this is an enormously exciting development," Mr Conroy told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

"I'm a big proponent of advancing women in politics ... I don't think it will be Hillary, I think it will be Michelle Obama".
