Exclusive: Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton says the two women who blamed him for contracting coronavirus are “long-standing opponents of the government who detest me”.

The home affairs minister tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday and immediately was into placed in quarantine in hospital.

The minister has subsequently returned home but remains in isolation.

Two women who were on the same flight to America earlier this month claim they contracted the virus from Mr Dutton, but the minister said they are “involved in all sorts of left-wing causes” and are using his diagnosis “for their advantage”.

Mr Dutton told Sky News host Peta Credlin he has continued to work in his capacity as home affairs minister while in hospital, and said his concern is to make sure “we can slow down the spread to save lives”.

There are a confirmed 298 cases across the country and five people have died due to the disease.

“Listen to the medical advice, putting to one side what you are hearing on social media,” Mr Dutton said.

"Don’t listen to the advocates or those people who hate me, or the prime minister, or hate the government.

"Listen to the facts people are getting on government websites, listen to that advice and heed that advice."
