Indian Nationals, Evacuees From Italy, Arrive in New Delhi to Face Two Week Quarantine

More than 200 Indian evacuees landed in New Delhi, India, from Italy on Sunday morning, March 15, where they were due to be quarantined for two weeks to be monitor for coronavirus symptoms, according to the country’s external affairs minister. The evacuations came amid a nationwide lockdown in Italy. Northern Italy was placed under strict quarantine measures on March 8, however this was eventually extended to the entire country. India was also working to contain the spread of the virus. As of Sunday morning, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported 84 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in India, as well as two deaths. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the creation of a coronavirus emergency fund on Sunday. The group of 218 Indian nationals, some of whom are seen here at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, included 211 students. The group was taken to an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) facility in west Delhi that previously held 518 evacuees from Wuhan, according to local reports.
