over 5 years in news
The National Basketball Association (NBA) abruptly suspended the 2020 season on Wednesday, March 11, after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus just prior to tip-off in Oklahoma City. Around 9.30 pm ET, the NBA released an official statement postponing all games “until further notice,” and instructed all teams who had played the Utah Jazz within the past 10 days to self-quarantine. The Utah Jazz said that the team was “working closely with the CDC” and that Gobert was in the care of Oklahoma City medical professionals. Gobert was seen touching journalists’ phones and mics at a press conference on March 9 reportedly to poke fun at the coronavirus panic. This video shows the moment fans were informed of the NBA’s decision, just prior to a scheduled game start in Sacramento, California, on Wednesday night. The Kings, who were scheduled to take on the New Orleans Pelicans, offered fans refunds. Credit: Derek Lytle via Storyful
