“The decisions of the government over the next few days could become a big deal down the track” regarding discussions over whether public gatherings should be allowed to continue, according to Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

Health Minister Greg Hunt confirmed on Thursday the government would be reviewing the travel ban to consider all of Europe as well as considering banning mass gatherings amid the increasing outbreak of coronavirus.

Mr Clennell told Sky News eight team members in this weekend’s Grand Prix in Melbourne were being tested for coronavirus and revealed Cricket Australia had confirmed a spectator at the Women’s T20 final seated in the member’s area of the MCG tested positive for the virus.

He reiterated what Sky News anchor Kieran Gilbert said that there was an “air of inevitability” about the situation but unlike Victoria, the number of confirmed cases in NSW were split evenly between domestic transmissions and overseas travelers.

“That is why if there is someone who is going to push for some sort of different situation with mass gatherings and sporting events, I think it is going to be NSW Chief Medical Officer Kerri Chant,” he said.
