Former Labor minister Graham Richardson says "it seems to me that the idea of zero-net emissions is stupid because it isn't going to happen".
The issue of governments committing to a net-zero emissions target by 2050 has been a controversial topic within Australian politics of late.
Labor Leader Anthony Albanese recently said his party would be taking the policy to the next federal election.
"I'm tired of the argument," Mr Richardson said.
"We go over this thing all the time".
"It seems to me that the idea of zero-net emissions is stupid because it isn't going to happen".
"I never want to spend my time working on something that will never occur".
