21 test positive on Grand Princess Cruise

about 4 years in news

United States Vice President Mike Pence reported that “21 individuals on the Grand Princess tested positive” for the coronavirus.

“Among those were 19 crew members,” he said.

The outbreak is linked to a passenger from a previous tour, a 71 year old Californian man with underlying health issues, who died on Wednesday after contracting the virus in February.

White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr Deborah Birx said many of the people on the cruise ship are over 60 years old and are therefore more vulnerable to the disease.

Ms Birx said “special attention” would be paid to anybody with “comorbidities or other conditions”.
