However, economic growth beat expectations in the final months of 2019 and Josh Frydenberg reported “Australia was in its 29th consecutive year of economic growth". Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi said the left “want to see a recession because that would damage the electoral prospects of the Morrison government”. “They don’t care about Australia’s welfare” and “want to see the government abandon a budget surplus,” he said. Mr Bernardi said the left also "want to see a massive stimulus program just like Kevin Rudd’s so they can say Kevin Rudd did the right thing”. “What they will overlook is how Kevin Rudd applied it to school halls and pink batts and a whole range of other hopeless measures," he said.
