ABC ‘doesn’t need to operate from blue chip locations’ to provide a service

The Courier-Mail’s Damien Tomlinson says the ABC could "free up some money by surrendering some of this prime real estate they occupy in most of our capital cities".

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting Minister for Communications Paul Fletcher has urged the ABC to consider selling its capital city offices, such as in Sydney's Ultimo and Melbourne's Southbank.

Instead, the ABC has been urged to move to "purpose build" facilities.

Mr Tomlinson told Sky News the ABC has "absolutely the best spot in the city" to operate out of in Melbourne.

"Does the ABC need these top-tier property footprints when really their job is to provide a service," he said.
