A major fire has broken out near the Gare de Lyon train station in Paris.

Police said the station was evacuated and people were urged to avoid the area.

Clouds of black smoke could be seen in the sky and a row of parked scooters and motorcycles burned after the blaze started on a street next to the transport hub.

The blaze began on the sidelines of a concert by Congolese singer Fally Ipupa in the area, according to BFM Television.

In a tweet, police said people were carrying out "unacceptable violence" as they defied a ban on protesting near the gig.

Officers on social media also condemned demonstrators for stopping firefighters from accessing the area.
