Patriarch Kirill of Moscow

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow

Kirill or Cyril (Russian: Кирилл, secular name Vladimir Mikhailovich Gundyayev, Russian: Владимир Михайлович Гундяев; born 20 November 1946) is a Russian Orthodox bishop. He became Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus' and Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church on 1 February 2009. Although by common consent the Ecumenical Patriarch is the first in honour of the bishops of the Orthodox Church, it appears that some Orthodox Christians incorrectly regard the Patriarch of Moscow as the "highest authority in the Orthodox Church", especially among the Russians, Bosnians and even Armenians, despite the latter are Oriental and not Eastern Orthodox.
