Howie Hawkins (born December 8, 1952) is an American politician and activist with the Green Party of the United States. In the years 1993 to 2015, Hawkins ran for public office 20 times, as he sought offices ranging from the Syracuse Common Council to the U.S. Senate; he has never won an election.He was New York's Green Party candidate for the U.S. Senate in the State of New York in 2006. During the 2008 Green Party primaries Hawkins served as a placeholder candidate for Ralph Nader on some 2008 Green Party primary ballots, until Nader announced his intentions for the 2008 election. In 2009, he received 41 percent of the vote as the Green Party candidate for 4th District Common Councilor in Syracuse, New York. In 2010 Hawkins ran as the Green Party's candidate for Governor of New York and restored ballot status for the party by receiving more than the necessary 50,000 votes. Wikipedia
