Akhtar Abdur Rahman Khan or Akhtar Abdur Rehman Khan (Urdu: اختر عبد الرحمن; 11 June 1924 – 17 August 1988), was an influential four-star rank general officer who tenured as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan from 1987–1988 and as 4th Director-General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from 1979-1987. As director of the ISI, Akhtar holds a world prestige for masterminding the resistance network against the Soviet Union in their war to protect the fragile regime of Communist Afghanistan. Wikipedia
