JOHANNESBURG - Friends, fans and colleagues have shared messages of grief after news that singer James Ingram has died.
Debbie Allen, Ingram's long-time friend and collaborator confirmed the news on Twitter.
"He will always be cherished, loved and remembered for his genius, his love of family and his humanity. I am blessed to have been so close", wrote Allen.

Ingram (66) started his musical journey with the band Revelation Funk and later lent his vocals to songs on an album recorded by Quincy Jones.
The cause of death of the Grammy-winning R&B star is not yet known.
Several stars including Quincy Jones and Gladys Knight have shared their fondest memories with the singer on social media.
