Pensacola Man Wakes to Find Barge Carried Into His Dock by Hurricane Sally Surge

over 3 years in news

The National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Sally would bring “catastrophic flooding" and “life-threatening storm surge" to parts of Florida and Alabama on September 16. Pensacola man John Switzer woke up to the full effect of that storm surge, when he saw a barge that had been loosed by the 100 mph winds and storm surges had destroyed his dock in Pensacola Bay. Switzer told Storyful the barge was being used in the construction of a new bridge across the bay. “Quite a few barges have broken loose,” he said, “and one with concrete columns is parked on my yard 20 feet away from my structure. Took out my dock.” Credit: John Switzer via Storyful
