The “mistakes of government and the carelessness of other citizens” have resulted in the Melbourne lockdowns and the Victoria-NSW border closure, according to Sky News host Paul Murray.

He said it was “important that the jokes stop, that the memes stop, that the point stops and that the sympathy begins”.

Mr Murray said he fully supported the prime minister’s speech where he said “we are all Melbournians now when it comes to the challenges we face, we are all Victorians now, because we are all Australians”.

He said he wanted to see maximum sympathy for those suffering and maximum accountability for those responsible over the coming weeks.
