There is now a ‘downgrading of democratic legitimacy’ due to cancel culture

over 3 years in news

Detached and un-elected corporate elites throwing their weight around on cultural issues is one of the “evil consequences of identity politics” according to NSW One Nation leader Mark Latham.

Mr Latham was referencing corporations who remove voices or advertising from their platform, such as Channel Nine banning One Nation leader Pauline Hanson for making what it claimed to be divisive comments.

He said by organisations removing the voice of publicly elected officials, there is a growing danger that there will be a “downgrading of democratic legitimacy”.

“These detached woke corporate elites, totally un-elected, totally unaccountable, are throwing their weight around to basically say ‘as media executives we don’t like that opinion so that person is off’”.

Mr Latham said with corporations peddling cancel culture rhetoric, Labor and the Greens have been “sucked in to thinking that these identity activities are valid”.

“(Meanwhile) all these corporations are still ripping off the workers,” Mr Latham told Sky News host Paul Murray.
