Victoria’s ‘self inflicted mess’ has left it as Australia’s ‘laughing stock’

It hard to see Victoria's COVID-19 disaster as anything but a "catastrophe for the Andrews government" as five million citizens are forced into home lockdown, according to Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“With the hardest restrictions in the nation, longer and harder than anywhere else, Victoria has ended up with the worst outcomes of any state,” Ms Credlin said.

The state has recorded 191 cases in the past 24 hours, forcing the Andrews government to lockdown five million people in the entire Melbourne metropolitan area and one regional shire.

Nine public houses have been placed into mandatory lockdown in North Melbourne and Flemington, with the towers being the source of over 65 cases.

Ms Credlin said the Andrews government is trying to use “every political trick in the book” to divert Victorians away from realising its failures.

“It’s a self-inflicted mess that started with poor hotel quarantine protocols, that’s now ended up with a state … that’s the laughing stock of the country”.

The Premier recently blamed the outbreak partially on the complacency of Victorians after the initial outbreak.

“This is not about the complacency of the people, it’s about the complacency and incompetence of the people’s government and its officials,” Ms Credlin said.

“Where’s the injunction, where's the pending class action, where's the ABC speaking out, where's the placards and the marches and the angry effigies of ministers.”
