NSW Victoria border to close at midnight

For the first time in more than 100 years, the New South Wales and Victorian border will close in a bid to stop Melbourne's second coronavirus wave spreading north.

The closure - which will take effect from midnight - is expected to pose problems for twin-city communities such as Albury-Wodonga.

While people who live on the border will be eligible for a permit if they need to travel across the border for work, Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie told Sky News there was "anger and confusion" over the closure.

Senator McKenzie argued the outbreak was largely confined to Melbourne so it would have made more sense to lock down the city and leave the regions alone.
