PM demands state and territory leaders set a date for open borders

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is pushing for states and territories to name a date for when they plan to re-open interstate borders.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk – who has stood firm against increasing pressure to open her border – said the move would not be considered until Queensland entered stage three.

“Nowhere in stage two does it talk about interstate travel. It is stage three, and we will make that decision by the end of June,” she said.

New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters said the trans-Tasman bubble would not be deterred by Australian states refusing to open.

“We should not have states being held back by the slowest mover, so to speak,” he said.

Four Pacific Islands are also pushing ahead with plans to be included in the future travel bubble with New Zealand and Australia.
